What if the world’s greatest museums weren’t telling the whole story?
Join award-winning journalist, filmmaker and broadcaster Marc Fennell for a fascinating discussion inspired by his bestselling book Stuff the British Stole. From museum collections to hidden corners of the globe, Marc uncovers the remarkable journeys of cultural treasures and artefacts, revealing stories of power, resistance, survival and the lasting impact of empire.
What began with a chance encounter with a curious mechanical tiger led Marc on an extraordinary international investigation into some of history’s most controversial collections. With humour, insight and empathy, he explores how these objects ended up far from their places of origin, and what their stories can tell us about the world today.
Marc Fennell is a Walkley Award-winning journalist, AACTA-nominated filmmaker, creator of the acclaimed ABC television series and podcast Stuff the British Stole, and host of SBS’s Mastermind.
This special event is presented by Shoalhaven Libraries at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre, with Marc appearing in conversation with Professor Peter Edwell, historian, author and educator.
Dymocks Nowra will be supporting the event with books available for purchase on the day, and Marc will be available for book signings following the discussion.
Don’t miss this engaging and thought-provoking conversation that challenges the stories we think we know about history and the objects that tell it.
This is a free event but bookings are essential.
